1 Hour Tooth Whitening opening 9/21/18

This month Deli Grocery presents an installation based exhibition featuring artists Nikolaus Dolman and Erik Sommer.

1 Hour Tooth Whitening provides formal framework to explore surface and erasure in a process that transforms the commonplace into a personal encounter. Repurposing toys with fact and fiction, waste and refuge. It also reveals the desire to give new relevance to what stands before us. This translation may serve as both literal and physical support in the dentistry.

Dolman’s work layers domestic ephemera and explores public space whilst Sommer’s operation is solidified, still and now deemed as artefact.

These immersive environments confront the ideas of mass production and convenience, when considering societies big appetite.

Artist in Residence: Taylor O. Thomas

Deli Grocery is pleased to host Taylor O. Thomas working in our Ridgewood studio August 1st-17th. Its August 2nd and Taylor is already hard at work!

In 2012, she graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College with a BA in Studio Art, and has since used painting as a means of investigating human tendencies, identity formation, and the interconnectedness between the body and mind. Thomas recently received the University Graduate Fellowship from the University of South Florida, where she is currently earning her MFA degree.

Art Spotlight: Julian Lombardi

Julian Lombardi is a remarkable painter with an unusual story. Julian spent the early part of his professional career as CPA and Senior Finance Manager, during this time he was involved in a life changing sports related accident. While in recovery Julian found inspiration and healing by re discovering his love for the arts.

Shortly after his recovery, while working a full time job, Julian attended night school studying drawing and painting at Santa Ana College, CA. During that time, he developed a connection with the LA art community, found a mentor and an artistic voice that he now uses to express himself visually. Today Julian is a visual artist living and working in Southern California. We feel privileged to know such a talented artist and human with a unique perspective on social standards that aren’t always represented in the artists community.

Julian was our resident artist during the month of June, 2018. While in New York he created an impressive body of work that we’re excited to share with you. As an artist resident he also got the opportunity to experience New York’s cultural scene; everything from museums, openings, and culinary experiences that are unique to the city.
